The Return - Tom/Voldemort Biography Part Eight
Voldemort was now in a more hopeful (for him) position. He put a magically broke the memory charm which had been put on Bertha Jorkins, and was able to learn from her of the Triwizard Tournament taking place at Hogwarts that year, and, perhaps more importantly, that one of his most loyal supporters, Barty Crouch Junior, the son of the Ministry of Magic Employee Barty Crouch, had escaped from Azkaban. Crouch Jr's mother had, as her dying wish replaced herself with her son in Azkaban and died there, whilst Crouch had snuck his son out of Azkaban, and was using the Imperius Course to keep his son from returning to his former master. Bertha Jorkins had discovered Crouch Jnr, but Barty Crouch Senior placed a memory charm upon her, causing her to go missing and end up right in Lord Voldemort's grasp. After breaking the memory charm placed upon Bertha Jorkins, her mind had been almost completely destroyed. Voldemort could not possess a body in this condition, and so he killed her. Voldemort used her death to create another Horcrux out of his snake, Nagini.

Wormtail was able to use magic to give Voldemort a somewhat human form (one which looked almost like a baby), and after this had been mastered, Voldemort came up with a plan to restore himself to a proper body, using very ancient, very dark magic involving 'bone of the father, unknowingly given', 'flesh of the servant, willingly given', and 'blood of the enemy forcibly taken'. He would use his father's bone from the Little Hangleton graveyard, flesh from Wormtail, and there was only one foe who's blood would suffice for Voldemort - Harry Potter's, his greatest foe.

Voldemort had Wormtail bring him to the Riddle House, to which Tom himself had visited many years before to remove the remaining traces of his loathed muggle family. There they remained for a little while, during which time they were discovered by the gardener, Frank Bryce and killed him. Wormtail then brought Voldemort to the Crouch household, where they freed Crouch Junior from the Imperius Curse placed upon him by his father to stop him returning to his former master. Crouch Snr was placed under the Imperius curse, and Voldemort, Crouch Jnr and Wormtail then captured Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, the famed Auror. Voldemort had learnt from Bertha Jorkins that Mad-Eye was to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts this year. This information gave him the opportunity to place a follower in Hogwarts.

Keeping Mad-Eye prisoner under the Imperius Curse in a magical chest, Crouch Jnr used Polyjuice potion to make him look like Moody. He travelled to Hogwarts, where his drinking of the Polyjuice Potion was made easier by the fact that Moody, renowned for being paranoid, always carried a hip flask round to drink out of, afraid that any drinks which he may be served could have been poisoned by a Dark Wizard. Using Dark Magic, Crouch Jnr performed a spell upon the Goblet of Fire, tricking it into believing that there were four schools entered for the Triwizard tournament. He then entered only one participant for this fourth school - Harry Potter. And so Harry was forced to become involved in the Triwizard tournament.

Posing as Moody, Crouch Jnr was able to aid Harry in completing each of the tasks, attempting to ensure that Harry would reach the Triwizard cup, hidden in the maze of the third task, first. The cup had been transformed by Crouch Jnr into a Portkey, which would bring Harry to the graveyard in Little Hangleton, where Voldemort was waiting by the grave of his muggle father. In fact, Harry and Cedric Diggory reached the cup together, and deciding that since they were both Hogwarts students, there would be no need to fight between them for the cup. And so they grasped it together.

Wormtail, waiting with Voldemort killed Diggory immediately and magically bound Harry. Wormtail could now begin the spell which would bring his master back to proper corporeal form. Using Dark Magic which called for "bone of the father", flesh of the servant, and blood of the enemy "forcibly taken". Voldemort wanted to use Harry's blood more than any of his other enemies because he counted Harry as his greatest enemy - it was Harry who had defeated him. He also hoped that the inclusion of Harry's Blood would mean that the lingering protection in Harry caused by his mother's sacrifice would be gone, meaning that he could tocuh Harry's skin without feeling pain, and also that the protection would exist inside his new body as well. However, there was a side effect which Voldemort did not forsee, and which will become important later.

And so, Voldemort rose again, in a state which he called "more powerful" than he had been before. Then, pressing Wormtail's Dark Mark, he called his Death Eaters to him. They came quickly, making a circle around Harry, in which for spaces for those Death Eaters who had been killed, who were still in Azkaban or who had changed sides and were not coming back. Voldemort reprimanded them for not coming to his aid or searching for him in the 13 years since his downfall. He told them he would require another 13 years loyal service before he could thing about forgiving them.

Voldemort then challenged Harry to a duel to the death, expecting Harry to lose. After torturing Harry by using the Cruciatus and the Imperius curses, Voldemort attempted to use the "Avada Kedavra" curse, but once again, he failed to kill Harry. In the same moment, Harry had used his own wand to cast the Disarming spell and as soon as the spells were cast a golden thread connected the wands, which Harry and Voldemort would later discover were brothers - both contained a core from the same phoenix, Dumbledore's pet, Fawkes. The wands refused to be used against each other, and this saved Harry's life. By attempting to force the wands to be used against each other, "Priori Incantatem" occurred, and the "shadows" of Voldemort's last victims emerged from the wand. Cedric first (Wormatail had used Voldemort's wand to kill Cedric), Frank Bryce, Bertha Jorkins and finally Harry's dad and then his mum. These "shadows" provided a barrier between Harry and Voldemort, giving Harry time to get back to the portkey, bringing Cedric's body back with him.

Once more, Voldemort had failed to kill "The Boy Who Lived". But he had achieved what many believed was impossible. He had returned. Soon his reign of terror would begin once more.
